West India Quay Floating Bridge Architect : Future Systems Engineer : Anthony Hunt Spanning Canary Wharf and West India Quay, the bridge is supported by 8 pontoons. The deck is ramped in two sections, tapered in towards the centre and linked by a central opening section, which lifts hydraulically with a balanced cantilever action. The main body of the bridge is mild steel, the decking aluminium, handrails are stainless steel with integral lighting.

Limekiln Dock Footbridge Architect : YRM Engineer : Anthony Hunt Linking the Limehouse residential area with Canary Wharf, with a span of 34m with a counterweighted swing setion and a mast on one dock the main deck is cabled stayed. The deck structure is 750mm deep by 450mm wide prefabricated section. Six rods support the swing section, with two rods acting as backstays to the counterweight. The swing action works by slewing the entire deck, mast and counterweight via underground motors. Mast and tension rods are illuminated at night. the deck is lit by fibre optics running along one edge.

St Saviour's Dock Footbridge Architect : Nicolas Lacey and Partners Engineer : Whitby & Bird Saving a long detour, the bridge spans the dock linking residential properties each side. The very light structure is pre-tensioned with three pairs of compression members - the masts, deck and handrail supports. All other elements are tensioned rods. The opening span is manually operated on a central pivot to allow marine access to the dock. All elements of the structure are stainless steel except the deck which is hardwood. The bridge is illuminated with fibre optic lights in the mast. |

The contract included the concrete abutments which required accurate setting-out of fixing bolts, in particular those restraining the curved tubes. |
